I was asked why I am so passionate about my stance against IHOP.
Let me first say that I am NOT against the concept of 24/7 prayer, nor am I against houses of prayer where people gather to worship and pray without ceasing. I think these are wonderful things.
What I am against is the method with which IHOP is corrupting scripture, proclaiming and backing false prophesy, promoting division and isolationism in its followers, using contemplative prayer as a method for going deeper with God and preaching judgment, elitism and bigotry. These are the things I am taking an active stance against because these are the things that are dangerous.
Whether or not you want to label IHOP a “cult” doesn’t matter. Maybe it is a cult. Maybe it is not. What is relevant is that the tactics and the methods used and taught in the IHOP movement stray from the solid foundation of the Bible. It is an “us” versus “them” mentality and that cannot be further from the heart of the Lord.
I don’t ask that you blindly believe me. I only ask that you research the movement for yourself. My intent is not to attack Mike Bickle, the man; but to attack the false teachings that spew from his lips and from the mouths of many of those on his leadership team.
Sadly, there are hundreds and hundreds of lives that have been devastated and families that have been destroyed because of the stronghold of this movement. My own family has suffered greatly. For ten years I have sat quiet, watching, listening, learning. The past three years I delved into an indepth study of the movement in hopes of better understanding its roots, its teachings, and its philosophies so that I could reach the people I love. Now, I am speaking out in hopes of reaching others too… that their eyes may be opened to see the IHOP movement for what it really is. ~
